Got a young teen artist who loves anime, cartooning or creativity in general? Then sign them up for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to express themselves under the guidance of a famous author and illustrator. R. Gregory Christie is hosting an arts-based program on identity and entrepreneurship that is developed especially for Rutherfordton teens. Mr. Christie is an award-winning children’s book illustrator and lecturer with a long track record of creating inspiring art. His animated films have been showcased on Netflix and HBO kids and he has illustrated more than 60 books for young readers that are available in local schools and libraries. He is an NAACP Image award winner and was the artist for the United Postal Service’s “Kwanzaa Stamp” in 2013. Some of his past clients include Chris Rock, Karyn Parsons, Regina King, and folk singer Pete Seeger. In this program, he will share his journey as an artist and entrepreneur, while guiding teens in an art project designed to help them find and express their identity. Participants will receive a signed book by Mr. Christie and a beginner illustrator art kit.

This program is recommended for high school students ages 14-18.

Family Bookbinding

Did you ever try to make your own book but would love to do it better? If so, join award-winning author/illustrator R. Gregory Christie for a family-friendly bookbinding class that also incorporates visual storytelling and interesting facts about books! Participants will learn the terms, tools, and basic skills in the craft of bookbinding. Use your creativity to design a set of simple books that you get to decorate and take home. A brand new book with Mr. Christie’s signature is also included as a free family gift for the day’s participants.

This program is recommended for all ages!
